Iโ€™ve been a part of Couchsurfing and Warmshowers (bike travelers only) for 10 years now, both as host and as guest.
I think the most important part is to set clear expectations in your profile, about who you are, what youโ€™re looking for, what you can offer and what are your needs (allergic to pets, celiac, kids, etc.).
I usually donโ€™t use it as a DN, because as someone else said, since itโ€™s community oriented, for me itโ€™d be rude to be hosted and to not have time to help in the house or spend time with them. It also consumes a lot of time to arrange, because not everybody replies and they might take some days to do so.
Regarding if it is safe, Iโ€™ve both hosted and been a guest as a solo woman with generally no serious issues.
If you have the time and mental disposition for what community building requires, I think itโ€™s an amazing way to get to know the local culture better.
Yeah! Iโ€™m here now - how long are you staying?
Hi all! There is a meet up planned for the 4th of October in Bangkok but only 2 people are joining so far! Letโ€™s make it bigger ๐Ÿš€ Iโ€™m coming to Bangkok on the 1st and Iโ€™d be happy to meet other nomads building cool stuff! Personally I work in the blockchain sector and also run a e-commerce. Whatever you are working on letโ€™s meet up to exchange knowledge and have fun. I canโ€™t post the link to the meetup because I am a new member but itโ€™s published on nomads.com

Why would you like your iPhone to have constant camera shutter sound?
Hi Max. I also live in a van without heating. I usually spend the winter in Southern California. The closer you are to the coast the warmer is it going to be in the winter.

I feel everywhere else is going to be pretty cold. There are a lot of vanlifers who make it down to Baja, Mexico in the winter.
I already discarded it as a way of saving money for accomodation.. because 3 nights is not enough and also it's not a lot of money. I made some calculations, and it's not worth it. I could spend the time to find a host etc, just to earn more money and then use them to get an airbnb or something. I think it could be maybe decent in spending time with some people (but it would depend on how it goes, obviously)
Me and my gf have 0 friends and no plan at the moment on how to make new friends
This would need some kind of fix in the future
But, at the moment, it would be too hard to do that

Hi, anyone in Athens in end of October/November ?
Yeah, I only used it for hangouts and to host people when I had my solid place. Staying at someone's place is too much of a hassle and takes too much time and effort.
Looks awesome dude!
Ah, another name change ?
Airbnb the best bet for Da Nang?
anaiden in #japan 3d
Thatโ€™s a common misconception: the iPhone will have the shutter sound in Japan only, but setting a non-Japan region and physically moving out of country disables it.

But even this was the case, I wouldnโ€™t care at all, because I barely take 30-40 pictures per year.
Iโ€™m quite active for Couchers.org and weโ€™ve got quite a solid community for Brisbane :)
But yeah, canโ€™t really depend on it as long term accommodation option but a very good way to meeting like-minded locals
Not for longer stays. lots of construction and serviced apartments tend to be much cheaper for monthly rentals
Thanks Federico! The meetup is at a cafe, just a few minutes walk from Asok station ๐Ÿ™Œ (Next Saturday from 4pm)

Is there an Osaka nomads chat?
I am wondering the same, but for Labuan Bajo :/
Hi hi,
Anyone knows of any "database" where I can find accommodations with Starlink connections?

Currently looking for Labuan Bajo, Indonesia on ChatGPT, but nothing decent so far
Iโ€™ll be there and bring a friend from outside this group
Iโ€™d recommend ordering online on the official Apple Store. You can use any convenience store as a pickup point or ask a local friend to receive it for you.

I did that previously when Apple AirPods were difficult to get in the physical stores. Needed to wait 6 weeks, but eventually I got them.
Did you try it or ask someone?

Because the staff told me it was 2.5 but when I did it, it worked.
I haven't tried recently though
anaiden in #japan 3d
Thank you! That was my initial plan as well, but itโ€™s impossible to use in-store pickup for the new iPhone in Apple Store Japan as of now. Itโ€™s not just sold out, but โ€œrestock date is unknownโ€. Hence my questions about smarter ways of getting it

Both, the screen on the ATM has a message at the top saying that the limit is 2.5M as well. When I manually entered any amount over 2.5M it also directly told me that this amount exceeds the limit. In total I've now tried 3 different Ueno ATMs and they all have the new limit already

Hi all! I am planning to go to Phuket in November. I will be exploring around the Phuket and nearby islands. I am a solo traveller. Let me know if you want to do some islands hopping together.
Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ

Iโ€™m Jess, 27, originally from the UK. Iโ€™m an Employment and Business Partnerships Lawyer.

In March this year I quit my job in London to embrace the digital nomad lifestyle. I have since made my way through Central America and South East Asia ๐ŸŒ Itโ€™s been a mix of exciting and slightly chaotic, but Iโ€™m loving it! Currently in beautiful Bali where I plan to settle for the next few months.

I now focus on helping remote workers, nomads, and startups with the legal/HR side of working across borders โ€” which ties in nicely with my own journey.

Always happy to connect, swap stories, or just chat with fellow nomads, so feel free to drop me a message ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ

actual high food quality
clean streets

easy and good transportation everywhere
All of these are super difficult to find anywhere outside of Gouna in egypt. Arguably some places in new cairo have this, but you donโ€™t get the same selection of people in your environment
Cool. I'm in the area for 2 weeks. Maybe not just Budapest though. Do you want to meet up? Or are there enough people in this sub that we should start a meetup?
Vienna & Bratislava are ~3 hours away
Prague & Zagreb are 6+ hours away
Munich is a โ‚ฌ160 flight away, but it's currently Oktoberfest so it might be worth it

Bringing friends to Phuket is like taking sand to the beach. They have plenty of that when you get there ๐Ÿ˜‚

If it's a matter of safety, you don't really need to worry about Thai people. Traveling to/from is as safe as can be. But fellow drunk foreigners can be a real problem. Where you stay is more important than how you get there. Lubd in Patong beach does a good job keeping people entertained & safe. Considering that it's a hostel, it's not cheap, but it's a non-stop party with rules & oversite.
Hey, sorry just saw this now! September and October are among the months that rains the most there, so not ideal
fkumahnhdtnnta I land in Phuket Monday I will be around. unsure whether I will stay in Phuket yet for November
Hi everyone! Iโ€™ll be working remotely from Thailand and due to my contract I can only connect to the internet via mobile data from a well-known operator and always through a VPN. Can anyone recommend a prepaid SIM card that gives good speed without heavy throttling when using hotspot for work?
Thinking of doing a 34h connection in Beijing
Is it worth it?
Can bro get a date on tinder ๐Ÿ™‚
Does anyone have a suggestion on Coworking spaces in Budapest? I just need a quiet place that offers a day-pass option
Does Thailand also require VPN use like China? Is the control so strict?
No. Unless you want to access banned sites like gambling.
I use AIS and never had any issues.
Hello - spending a month in the beautiful and weird Asheville, NC
I think you do it over the website
First of all sorry for late reply

The dividing line between Cairo and Giza is the Nile River.
So we can consider it one big city
Every place in Egypt has its own vibes, weather, food, public transportations .. etc
General advice anywhere.. Don't go to a place without asking around and finding out if it's completely safe.. This doesn't mean that there is no safety in Egypt.. On the contrary, people are very welcoming to foreigners in many places, but there are places that are not always safe, whether for Egyptians themselves or foreigners.
Alexandria is my city.. I love it very much.. Great weather and amazing seafood.. Lots of historical and touristic places and diverse architecture.. It is much smaller than Cairo so you can visit many places in one day so 3 or 4 days is very suitable
Cairo and Giza are much more spacious and the options are 10 times more than Alexandria for example.. Many tourist and historical sites as well and many places to visit so 7 or 8 days are suitable and it is possible to have more if you do not have time to visit many places but it is preferable that you be with a tour guide especially in the tourist areas because there are some exploitative people who want to get money from tourists greedily
I have never visited Luxor before, but it contains two-thirds of the world's antiquities, so you can imagine how amazing this place is. The best time to visit is in the winter due to the high summer temperatures.
700 euro per month for is good enough in the most of these places but donโ€™t trust brokers .. air bnb is the best and in dahab you can rent the first days by air bnb and search there for another affordable places
600 euro is ok if youโ€™re eating daily from not fancy local restaurants.. you can eat koshry for 1 euro and you can eat pizza for 10 euros
Unfortunately I can only recommend not to get True H. The performance especially in hotspot is very spotty.
